According to some information, Serbia plans to buy a total of 118 Humvees from the USA, which will be armed with materials from domestic military factories.
The USA delivered 66 light armored Humvees (HMMWV – High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) to the Serbian Army, procured through a direct commercial contract with the American company AM General.
According to the Balkan Security Network portal, this is the first tranche of a total of 118 vehicles ordered.
On the Instagram channel of the US Embassy in Serbia, it is written that the vehicles are in the barracks in Pancevo and will be used, among other things, for the purposes of participating in international peacekeeping missions, Beta reported.
“These are not just American vehicles, this is a NATO standard. When you see with whom the Serbian Army is deployed in peacekeeping missions, and the partners in Lebanon are Spain and Italy, and in Sinai it is the USA, what we have in common is the NATO standard. The possession of such vehicles enables Serbia to be part of any peacekeeping mission around the world, to react quickly, as well as to be deployed side by side with its partners”, states the US Embassy.
The announcement adds that the latest acquisition will enable Serbia not only to be effective in peacekeeping operations in the world, but also that it is an “excellent first step” in achieving interoperability with the US Army.
The Balkan security network has learned that the first deliveries of new Humvee vehicles began at the end of June via Belgrade airport and it is a purely commercial business, unlike the first tranche from ten years ago, when the USA donated a number of these vehicles.

In 2012 and 2017, the USA gave the Serbian Army a total of 40 vehicles of this type, and the Army used them mainly in the then Special Brigade (battalion in Pančevo) and in the 31st Infantry Battalion from Zaječar, part of the Third Army Brigade.

The Humvee is a multipurpose light armored combat vehicle on wheels, which is very popular and is used by many armies in the world and almost all formations around Serbia.
Due to relatively weak armor protection, the Humvee is mainly used in special or military-police units, as well as for participation in peacekeeping operations.
