The Russians in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, have had “situational successes” in recent days .
Yevhen Oropai, commander of the Svoboda battalion (National Guard), spoke about this on the air of the telethon.
According to him, the enemy has been intensifying attacks since February 24, and has advanced from the south and north of Bakhmut. Oropay explains this by the fact that the Russians have strengthened their artillery.
“The enemy is constantly attacking Bakhmut from the front and destroying all the buildings that are located there. And little by little it begins to squeeze (the territory – Ed. ), as we save our forces and withdraw our troops 15-20-30 meters back, so that at least somehow- then take cover from artillery and mortar shelling,” the military said.
At the same time, the Russians are not allowed to gain a foothold in the occupied territories, inflicting artillery and tank strikes on them.
He also believes that the defense of Bakhmut is important for deterring Russian forces and preparing a counteroffensive, which will begin “in the near future.”
