Parents of Sick Children Are Asking for Funds for the Necessary Medicine Before the Government of FBiH

At the last session of the Parliament, it was impossible to release funds for the purchase of the drug Kaftrio, which 28 patients in the FBiH cannot afford, given that the annual therapy costs close to 250,000 euros.

Parents of children suffering from cystic fibrosis in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, disappointed by the unfulfilled promise to provide funds for the necessary medicine, came to the Government in Sarajevo to ask for an explanation – why the proposal to rebalance the budget, which should have resolved the issue, was withdrawn from the last session of the Parliament.

The government withdrew the item from the session of the House of Representatives of the entity parliament, which was supposed to adopt the budget rebalancing according to the urgent procedure, with the clarification that the document needs to be refined.

“We are here today because we were promised that their lives will become a little simpler and that they will be able to live longer than 20 years. Somehow all that remained an empty promise and today we are here again to seek a cure for our children. My daughter receives a lot of therapy in addition to inhalation, and the medicine would lead to stagnation of the disease and we could slowly treat it”, said Mirsada Softić , mother of a seven-year-old girl who suffers from cystic fibrosis, for the BiH portal Klix.ba.

In the RS, the medicine is free

This also prevented the release of funds for the purchase of the drug Kaftrio, which 28 patients in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot afford, given that annual therapy costs close to 250,000 euros.

Securing money for the purchase of medicines is a request they made to the authorities during the recent protest in Sarajevo.

In another entity, Republika Srpska, medicine is free, as in EU countries.
