Iran has developed a cruise missile with a range of 1,650 kilometers, General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the aerospace division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the most powerful organization in the Islamic Republic, said Friday on state television.
“Our cruise missile with a range of 1,650 km has replenished the missile arsenal of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Hajizade. State television showed footage showing the new Paveh cruise missile.
Iran has expanded its missile program, especially in terms of building ballistic missiles, despite objections from the United States and expressions of concern from European countries, Reuters reported. Tehran says its program is purely defensive and deterrent.
Last November, the Pentagon said the United States was skeptical of Hajizade’s claims that Iran had developed a hypersonic ballistic missile.
